Booker Statement on Refugee Admissions Decision by Biden Administration

Statement

Date: April 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement after the Biden Administration announced that it would keep the FY 2021 refugee admissions target at 15,000:

"The United States has always been a beacon of hope and opportunity for those fleeing persecution because of religion, race, nationality and more. We are witnessing the largest refugee crisis in history and have a solemn responsibility as a global leader to help those in need. We must do better.

"Resettling refugees is not just the right thing to do, it improves our country--creating more vibrant and diverse communities, prioritizing human rights, and setting an example for other nations. I urge President Biden to follow through on his promise to resettle more refugees."
